SEEKING MY LONG LOST SIBLINGS
One of the main reasons i decided to travel to Zambia was to seek my siblings, whom i have never met. I'm one of those children who never had any relationship to their daddy. I never knew my father, i think i had met him like once when i was a child. I remember that encounter but the face through the years has faded away. My father past away early 2000's and my mother was informed of his death by one of his family members, she attended the funeral and learnt that my father had married and had two children. I was not able to attend the funeral myself at that point.
Through the years it always stuck with me that i had two siblings somewhere. so at an early age i made a promise to myself that one day when i'm old enough i will do anything to try and re-unite with my siblings. So when me and my bestfriend who also has roots in Zambia decided to travel back home, i saw an opportunity to find my siblings.
To my luck my uncle is well connected in Zambia so he hooked me up with an interview in the post newspaper. My interview came out on sunday 24-8-2014, i remember the excitement i felt when i picked up the newspaper to read my article.
A lot of people were very skeptical about my interview, this was a very popular newspaper nationwide and anybody could just come up and claim we are related. So i also grew skeptical but at the same time i had faith and hope.
On a monday while im out exploring the city of Lusaka and minding my own business, I got a call from my uncle saying he just spoke to someone who claims to be my brother. I'm in the streets and i'm screaming loud, what i cant believe it, so soon, already. I wasnt ready. My uncle asked me to come home immediately, because he had asked the guy claiming to be my brother to come home. I remember i was so nervous and excited at the same time, but i didnt want to let it be shown, what if he is not the one, that was what was going through my head.
As i arrive at my uncles house, waiting in suspense, a young man walks in, with reading glasses and dreadlocks. At this point i dont know who to pair his resemblance with, well coz i dont know how my father looked like. He sat across of me, and started talking about how he read the article and everything i said about my father sounded exactly like his father. After a moment i just felt this chemistry between us, and i just knew deep down that he is my brother, his attitude and his character sort of reminded me of myself, in a bizarre way considering he looked kinda geeky, which he is, because he is a math genius and i'm not lol.
From that day that's how i found my siblings, my brother and my sister. I never got to meet my sister because she was in another city and couldn't make it to come see me, and my vacation was coming to an end.
I'm just grateful to be re-united with other siblings and look forward to the future. Also grateful for all the support I got from my family and total strangers. I had people messaging me through the Post newspaper, Facebook, emails, telling me how touching my story was, wishing me luck and alot of people i had inspired who where in the same situation as I.
